A Body

a body in the woods—of what?—
the curdled bones, of, of, of, of
something left
behind, left alone
for a very long time

the scars on my body

(long and white-pink, snaking down from my collarbone to bellybutton, twining
around my arms in looping lines)

                seem to be constellating
shifting over time to form

“sorry sorry sorry sorry”

they are visible now, under
layers of atrophied muscle

the apologies,
they are stitched into my skin,
wading through my veins

question: if you were to build a body out of marble—what
would it look like?

answer: not mine.
